Back then, they weren’t symbols of disco fever — they were atmospheric magic-makers.

This was also the era of Yolanda Baker, one of the most prolific disco ball makers in history. At the Louisville, Kentucky, she and a team of women hand-crafted thousands of mirror balls that lit up the world’s most famous dance floors. Every mirrored tile was applied by hand, a labor of love and precision that gave each ball its dazzling life.
